BURMA

Burma. A country of 50 million people ruled ruthlessly by a totalitarian regime, where owning a fax machine without permission can result in a 7 year prison sentence. A regime guilty of persistent human rights abuses including wide scale forced labour, conscription of child soldiers, torture, systematic rape and forced relocation of ethnic minorities. A regime that in August 1988 gunned down over 3,000 of it's own people peacefully demonstrating for democracy in the streets of Rangoon. A regime that in 1990 refused to acknowledge the result of democratic elections, instead incarcerating over 2,100 political prisoners, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi who still remains under house arrest today.

A regime that continues to rule with an iron fist in defiance of humanity worldwide.
