Ordinary Places: Extraordinary Lives

For 5 days in September 2007 over 100,000 monks and ordinary people marched through the streets of Rangoon demanding an end to the injustices heaped upon them by the military regime for so many generations. The world stood transfixed at what was happening waiting for a reaction from the military.
On 26th September soldiers poured onto the streets of Rangoon and over the following 4 days over a hundred innocent people were shot or beaten to death, monasteries were systematically raided and thousands were imprisoned and tortured with thousands more fleeing to the Thai border to escape.

This photostory shows these killing fields and places of significance from the Saffron Revolution some three months later. The places where innocent people were slaughtered and daily life once again was systematically suppressed at the hands of a brutal regime. These were the places not shown to the world. The lives that were apparently not lost.

The world has forgotten but the fear lives on in the Ordinary Places: Extraordinary Lives.
